Gnostic Study Circle - Inland Empire
|
A gathering of seekers, investigators of invisible realms, scholars of the arcane, the perpetually curious, the studiously weird, etc., who are interested in expanding their understanding of Gnosticism and Gnosis. Meetings will begin with a brief presentation by Douglas Bess (who holds an M.A.T.S. from the Claremont School of Theology) to be followed by group discussion. Topics, as well as the finalized schedule for time and days for future meetings, will be determined by group consensus at the initial meeting. Potential topics include: the historical Jesus; the Nag Hammadi writings (such as the Gospel of Thomas); heretical groups (i.e. Manicheans, Cathars); gnosis in literature and art (i.e. Grail legends, Philip K. Dick, the Matrix films, etc.); modern groups and practices (i.e. Crowley, Sex & Occult Magic, etc.); the "unknown" God; the Demiurge; meditative practices & mystical visions; ritual & theurgy; among many. The search for gnosis is often characterized by iconoclasm and irreverence, so come prepared for anything - perhaps to have your cage rattled, or your beliefs challenged, and hopefully, at the very least, to have your understanding expanded.

"It's cool we're going to have a priest with us (in case we need any exorcisms). Although I was ordained into the order of Exorcist in the Liberal Catholic Church, I'm out of practice. Looking forward to meeting you. "

"I've been studying the Gnosis since I bought my copy of the Nag Hammadi library in the 80s. I'm a historian of religion (look on Amazon) and a lifetime student of esoteric Christianity. I understand that, if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off."
