Informal gnostic meeting of friends, with a general discussion limited to 2 hours maximum.
People can come and go as they please, as we have no formal agenda.

In May, our topic will be Wonderous Words: How Do We Describe Our Spiritual Paths

Being practical philosophers, group members speak often about how they define themselves. I thought it would be a good idea to explore words and meanings further. The official topic might be semantics. :)

In April, our topic was Gnosis at Work: Finding Balance

After experiencing the unexpected and violent death of my oldest beloved pet, Sugar, I find it particularly hard to focus on my work right now or on any enriching thoughts I had hoped to share on this topic.

Though we did talk a bit about work, loss and change naturally came up as one of experiential realities of life. I hope to continue the balance within chaos series later with more focus on the home and community.

If you do not want to share about your personal experiences, bring your thoughts and experiences related to technology, postmodern or integral culture and spirituality. You can share poetry, quotes, music, art, as examples.

The intent of a broad topic is to give everyone a chance to contribute, regardless of their background knowledge, etc. If you wish to contribute something on a specific tradition, feel free to do so.

Gnosticism as practiced by most individuals I know embraces interconnectedness, balance, freedom & tolerance/acceptance. I too hope we can meet twice a month, with maybe the second meeting as more of a study meeting on a quieter night.

Probably the most focused meeting I've attended. Yes, the topic itself doesn't directly relate to Gnosticism but my view of Gnosticism is shaped heavily by that and other subjects. Still, I got the impression that certain people were viewing Gnosticism as an alternative to Christianity rather than an early branch of it and were more concerned with morality than insight and self-experience. Still, a good meeting and I can't wait for the next one. I'd do it twice a month if possible.

Enjoyed my first meeting very much. This is a very down to earth group with good participation by all in the discussion.

Who attended?

    •  Four new people attended, which was excellent, and we had a good discussion from diverse points of view.
    •  I'm not sure that we got to the true topic of the meeting soon enough. However, that's understandable, given there were almost all new people at the meeting. I didn't come away with a connection as to how the words we discussed pertain to Gnosticism. I look forward to future meetings . . . I'm more interested in a study group, as I'm new to Gnosticism and am eager to learn more.
